Try Something New

From circadian eating and sleep synching to dopamine fasting and sense hacking, here’s 10 wellness worth trying – and how to get started!

10 Wellness Trends Worth Trying

One of the foundational reasons we created Ned was because we’re big believers in the power of simple and natural healing. Our search for the world’s best natural remedies doesn’t stop at physical products. As we continue to bring you game-changing products, we also continue to discover and share restorative practices from around the world, both old traditions and new trends.

1. Circadian Eating

Circadian eating (also known as “chrono-nutrition”) is a way of eating that aligns with your body’s natural circadian rhythm. It involves eating when it’s light out and fasting when it’s dark out, making breakfast your heaviest meal and dinner your lightest meal, and maintaining a consistent eating schedule everyday. Studies suggest the benefits of circadian eating may include better digestion, metabolism, sleep, mood and energy levels.

2. Sleep Synching

Sleep synching is a way of tuning your natural circadian rhythm to the rhythms of nature (e.g. the sun and the moon) for better quality sleep by following a consistent sleep schedule. It involves waking up at the same time every day, getting some morning sunshine, avoiding caffeine after midday, stopping eating when it gets dark, avoiding screens before bed, and going to sleep at the same time every night.

3. Sense Hacking

Sensehacking is a way of using the power of your senses (sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste) to improve your mood. Tapping into your senses can change how you feel almost instantly. Simple ways to soothe your senses and boost your mental health include clearing your space, lighting a candle, and bringing some nature indoors.

4. Skychology

Skychology (the psychology of looking up at the sky) is a way of bringing mindfulness, calming anxiety, feeling connected, and regulating emotions. It involves going outdoors, taking a few deep breaths (in through the nose, out through the mouth), gazing up at the sky for at least a minute, and finishing with a few more deep breaths. You can even incorporate the 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique to feel more centered by acknowledging 5 things that you can see, 4 things that you can hear, 3 things that you can feel, 2 things you can smell, and finally 1 thing you can taste.

5. Micro Workouts

Micro workouts are a way of benefitting from more movement throughout the day without the time commitment. It might involve dancing to your favorite song while you’re getting ready in the morning, planking before lunch, or lifting a couple weights after dinner. These short sessions add up and are a fun way to get moving! Learn more about the benefits of integrating more natural movement into your day.

6. Dopamine Fasting

Dopamine fasting is a way of resetting or rebalancing your brain by temporarily abstaining from activities that overstimulate its pleasure center by offering too much instant gratification. It involves taking a break from social media, avoiding sugary foods, and spending time in nature away from screens. It’s believed that dopamine fasting can improve focus, productivity, and overall well being.

7. Friluftsliv

Friluftsliv (pronounced free-loofts-liv and translated to “free-air-living”) is the Scandinavian art of unwinding in the open air and a way of benefitting from spending time in nature all year round. It involves embracing the idea that “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing” and planning hikes and picnics and other outdoor activities even in the depths of winter. Learn more about the many health benefits of spending time in nature.

8. Mushroom Stacking

Mushroom stacking is a way of combining functional mushrooms with other adaptogens and antioxidants to enhance the benefits. Functional mushroom blends can help reduce anxiety and stress, promote relaxation, combat inflammation, improve cognition, and increase energy. It involves finding the right product for you and taking it consistently. Learn more about our favorite functional mushrooms and adaptogenic blends.
