Full Spectrum CBD Decoded

By Rory Coulter
Full Spectrum CBD Oil Made from Organically Grown Hemp

Full-spectrum CBD oil, as opposed to CBD isolate, has many whole-body benefits because it retains the maximum amount of the more than 480 active phytochemicals produced by hemp flowers.

In addition to the cannabinoid Cannabidiol (CBD), full spectrum extract is loaded with a wide array of bioactive compounds including secondary cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, stilbenes, and others.

Each of these compounds has its own unique healing properties and research suggests that when consumed together, these compounds enhance each other's desired effects, through what researchers call the entourage effect.

What is CBD?

CBD has taken the health world by storm for its potent natural healing compounds and varied benefits. CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of over 100 naturally-occurring, biologically active ingredients found in hemp or cannabis.

CBD and THC are the most well known but many of the cannabinoids promise health benefits, especially when they are found together. This synergistic power, known as the entourage effect, is the key to full spectrum oil.

CBD Capsules vs. Tinctures

Full spectrum hemp extract can be consumed as a tincture or in capsule form. To learn how these methods differ and which will work best for you check out our article on Capsules vs. Tinctures.

Full Spectrum vs. Broad Spectrum vs. CBD Isolate

CBD extracts fall under three categories: full-spectrum, broad spectrum and isolate. Understand these and you’ll know what you’re buying.

Full spectrum oils retain and concentrate all the naturally-occurring, healing compounds in the plant. This maximizes the entourage effect and provides the full spectrum of the plant’s potency.

In broad spectrum extracts, all the THC is removed so there’s no psychoactive effect. The plant is more highly processed and loses some of its vitality.

A CBD isolate is exactly that: CBD isolated from its naturally occurring co-factors. The CBD consists of 99.0% pure CBD and nothing else. The result: A positive result on a drug test won’t happen. The rub: CBD does better when its friends are around.

Terpenes

In the CBD friend group, terpenes are essential oil compounds that give plants their distinct smell and taste. In cannabis, terpenes change how cannabinoids are experienced by the body. Terpenes also bring special therapeutic benefits to the table in their own right. These include anti microbial, analgesic effects, nausea relief and sedative effects.

Flavonoids

Flavonoids are the pharmacies of the plant world, what they do for plants, they can do for us as well. We benefit from their anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Trichomes

Trichomes are like the house where the CBDs and their friends hang out. These small hairs on the surface of the plant are where the cannabinoids and terpenes are produced. Ned’s full spectrum CBD oil is only extracted from whole flowers or ‘buds’. Since this is where you’ll find the highest concentrations of trichomes, it’s the most cannabinoid- and terpene- and flavonoid-rich part of the plant.

What Ned Does

Using a very gentle, slow, and cold ethanol-based extraction method, Ned ensures none of these vital nutrients are compromised and the trichomes are able to ‘deliver the goods’.

Ned patiently extracts the CBD and all their important cofactors from the flowers to bring you a true, full spectrum CBD oil packed with beneficial nutrients.
