Michelle's Vanilla Date Shuteye Chai Latte

Dates are one of nature’s natural sweeteners. It has notes of caramel undertones that pair well with the warm, earthy flavors of Shuteye Chai. With the addition of vanilla to round everything out, this combination makes for a great, comforting night cap before bed!

Recipe:
- 1 Tbsp date syrup*
- 1 oz vanilla syrup
- ½ cup hot water
- 2 scoops NED Shuteye Chai
- ¾ cup warm frothed milk

Instructions:
1. Add date syrup, vanilla syrup, and hot water to a glass or mug.
2. Add 1-2 scoops of Shuteye Chai to the glass or mug.
3. Use spoon or milk frother to mix all contents together.
4. Heat milk until scalding but not boiling. If using a food thermometer, milk
temperature should be 150F.
5. Use milk frother to froth heated milk until volume doubles in size.
6. Pour warm froth milk into glass or mug and enjoy!

*BONUS: Homemade Date Syrup Recipe
- 8 Medjool dates, pitted
- 1.5 cup water
- Optional: 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
Additional items needed: nut bag or cheese cloth, blender

Instructions:
1. In a small saucepan, heat water on the stove over medium heat until just
boiling. Turn off stove and add in dates. Allow dates to steep and soften for
30 minutes to 1 hour.
2. Pour dates and water into blender and blend until smooth. Keep saucepan
at the side because you will use it for later. No need to wash.
3. Pour contents into nut bag or cheese cloth and strain liquids into saucepan.
All the natural sugars will be extracted from the dates, resulting in a pulp
that can be discarded.
4. Return the saucepan to the stove. Add vanilla extract if desired. Heat over
medium heat until thickened. The viscosity of syrup should be thick as
honey.
5. Store date syrup in jar and place in refrigerator. Use within 2 weeks.

Get To Know the Recipe Creator:

Ned: What’s your name, occupation and instagram handle?
Michelle: Hi! My name is Michelle, and I am a drink content creator! You can find me on Instagram at @Baking_mixeo.

Ned: What inspired you to start creating mocktails?
Michelle: I was drawn into the realm of creating mocktails after being inspired by watching other drink videos on Instagram. I loved how the drinks were not only aesthetically pleasing to watch, but were also calming for the mind and body. I specifically chose to create mocktails because they are so versitile! You can enjoy
mocktails at any time of day and on any sort of occasion. I also love how anyone of any age can make and enjoy a mocktail.

Ned: What does holistic health mean to you?
Michelle: I believe that holistic health embodies the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing of a person. Because there are so many factors that can affect one’s overall health, all these components should be taken into great consideration and properly addressed based on everyone’s individual needs. What works for someone else may not work for you, and I like that holistic health takes many aspects into account.

Ned: What do you love about Shuteye Chai?
Michelle: The greatest part about Shuteye Chai is that it is all natural. I love how  each ingredient has a health benefit that contributes to calming the mind and helping to promote more restful sleep. On those rough nights where I have trouble sleeping, I used to rely on melatonin gummies. Instead, I love how I can just have a drink that will serve the same benefit!

Ned: What is your nightly Shuteye Chai ritual?
Michelle: Usually, I like to keep things simple. 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to bed, I would mix 1-2 scoops of Shuteye Chai with warm frothed milk to create a night latte. Sometimes when I want to jazz things up, I like adding about 1 tsp of vanilla syrup or date syrup to my Shuteye Chai latte. I like that these additional flavors complement the warm notes in the drink.

Ned: How does Shuteye Chai support your sleep?
Michelle: There are so many all natural sleep promoting ingredients in Shuteye Chai. There are adaptogens such as ashwaganda, mushrooms such as reishi and chaga, and other beneficial ingredients like chamomile and magnesium that help to induce and improve one’s REM sleep. Because Shuteye Chai is packed full of ingredients that help to relax the body and calm the mind into slumber, I feel like Shuteye Chai has been helping to improve my sleep for the nights when I
have trouble going to bed.

Ned: What do you do with the sediment at the bottom of the mug?
Michelle: It depends. On some nights if I have room at night for a second cup, I will drink the leftover sediment after mixing it with more warm milk or water. These sediments carry some of the health and sleep benefits of Shuteye Chai and I wouldn’t want to waste it. Other nights when I’m feeling lazy, I toss the sediment into a compost bin.

Ned: What is your favorite sleep tip?
Michelle: My favorite sleep tip is to put away all electronic devices 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to bed. I have found that when I use my phone, watch TV, or use my laptop prior to bed, I tend to stay awake for longer because I’m too engaged with what is being shown on the screen. Instead, I like to unwind by reading a book or pampering myself in bed with facial massages or masks prior to sleeping.
